With a total budget of almost 800.000 euros – with a co-funding from DG ECHO (Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations of the European Commission) – PROCULTHER is running since January 2019 and will last until December 2020.
The Consortium Partners implementing this Project, i.e. the Italian Civil Protection Department (DPC), as leader, together with the Ministère de l’Intérieur – Direction Générale de la Sécurité Civile et de la Gestion des Crises (France), the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Regional Government of Castilla y Leon (Spain), the Ministry of Interior – Disaster and Emergency Management Authority – AFAD (Turkey), decided to work together to improve their cultural heritage protection system. The International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) and the Fondazione Hallgarten – Franchetti Centro Studi Villa Montesca (Italy) are the two other PROCULTHER partners that will enhance the expertise of this Consortium.
Italy, France and Spain are on the list of countries in the world with the highest number of recognized UNESCO World Heritage sites. Moreover, at European Union level, these three countries have gained significant experience in the increasing sector of protection of cultural heritage during emergencies. In addition, Turkey, a risk-prone country and also rich in wonderful cultural sites, will contribute to PROCULTHER with its valuable background in this sector.
The overall purpose of PROCULTHER is contributing to develop UCPM and Participating States capacities to protect cultural heritage assets during emergencies by placing their protection at the top of national European agendas and making the enhancement of their resilience a multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder goal, for the National Disaster Management and Cultural Heritage Protection Agencies of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) participating States and, in general, the population of cultural heritage rich countries in Europe and worldwide which would benefit from improved protection in case of emergencies… [More about us]
